Doctor of Optometry
Dr. Ryan McKinnis trained in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he graduated magna cum laude. He completed a residency in ocular disease at Ohio Eye Alliance in 2011 and spent the next 9 years as a clinical optometrist at Cleveland Eye Clinic. It is during this time that Dr. McKinnis became passionate about providing comprehensive eye care to the entire family.
Dr. McKinnis focuses a large portion of his career on advanced contact lenses for the most difficult patients and advanced ocular disease. He researches, publishes, lectures, and is a leader in keratoconus, scleral, gas-permeable, hybrid, and custom soft contact lenses. He is a former governor of Zone 2 of the Ohio Optometric Association as well as a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and the Scleral Lens Education Society.
In 2019, Dr. McKinnis achieved the title of Diplomate in Cornea, Contact Lens, and Refractive Technologies of the American Academy of Optometry. This is the highest clinical designation in the field of optometry. Dr. McKinnis is one of ten optometrists in Ohio who has achieved this milestone.
While not in the office you can often find Dr. McKinnis with his four children and his wife, Heather. He’s passionate about sports, loves to golf and creatively plans travel adventures for his wife and children as often as possible. He is also active in their local church and community when not chauffeuring the children!
